Little Ricky and the Roosters will perform at the depot's New Year's Eve party.
By MARVIN READTHE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN
Let's see: Does "Up with the Chile and and Out With the Old" sound just about right as a way to celebrate one year's end and another's beginning?
Well, whatever, that's what it's all about as time nears for the annual Big Chile Ball New Year’s Eve celebration at Pueblo Union Depot.
The event - the 12th annual such fete - will begin with cash-bar cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m., dinner (chicken and beef) served at 7 p.m. and a dance that begins at 8:30 p.m. and will go on until 12:30 a.m.
Included will be the signature symbolism of the night: the annual raising of the big red chile pepper in front of the depot at midnight and free champagne toasts all around. Featured band for the dancing portion of the festivities is a local group, Little Ricky and the Roosters. The group specializes in blues, soul, rhythm and blues and 1960s-era music.
Members of the band are "Little Ricky" Terlep, guitar and vocals; Steve Montoya, guitar and vocals; John Withers, Hammond B3; Scott Thomas, drums and vocals; John Grove, bass and vocals; Kevin Moreman, trumpet; and Matt Kouba, saxophone.
The new-year bringer-inner dinner-dance will cost $25 per person, with group tables of 10 available for $200. The latter price includes a free bottle of champagne.
Tickets are available in advance at the Union Depot and credit-card orders will be accepted through Dec. 29 at 544-0020.
